Paris police have arrested a man on the terrorism watch list after his car was found near the Notre Dame Cathedral with several gas cylinders inside.
The car's hazard warning lights were flashing but there was no detonating device inside, police said.
French media reported that seven cylinders were found, one empty, in a Peugeot 607 with no number plates.
Some 130 people died in Paris in November in a series of terror attacks carried out by so-called Islamic State.
An associate of the car's owner, also known to police, was arrested, the AFP news agency reported.
Anti-terror prosecutors have opened a preliminary investigation, AFP said.
